Helping Hands

AELP students are stepping forward to help fellow classmates in need.

Leadership and teamwork are two important concepts that the students will be exercising throughout the AELP this summer.  Their morning classes are structured to foster an environment where learning is not only focused on the mechanics of the English language but also on the power of using a common language to share and help one another when we're needed.

In Brandon's class, for example, a situation arose where one of his students stepped forward this morning to help a fellow classmate and, ultimately, strengthen the team.  As Brandon writes, "On the first day of class, we reviewed how to set up individual blogs so that students can contribute their thoughts and ideas about our classes, activities, and their overall AELP experience. On the second day, we welcomed Veronika, a late arrival from the Czech Republic.  She had arrived during the night, her bags had been lost, and now, she was behind in the first task of setting up the blog.  It would have been very easy for her to feel lost.

Andreana and Veronika
I told Veronika about the individual blogs and let her know that I would help her set up her blog after class.   Without missing a beat, Andreana, a fellow AELP student from Italy, chimed in, "It's OK, I will explain it to her!" I was immediately impressed with the kindness and thoughtfulness that Andreana showed and how it made Veronika feel instantly welcomed to the class.  Taking the initiative like she did, showing leadership, realizing how important it is to reach out and lend a helping hand when others might need it--I would like to recognize these strong attributes that Andreana displayed."

It is traits like these that will take Andreana and her fellow classmates very far in life.  AELP is proud to offer an environment where these skill sets can be learned and encouraged.
