Reaching New Heights

As students continue their studies into the week's theme of scientific and technological advancements, their personal and English-language learning advancements are noted and applauded by AELP staff.

This afternoon saw the students hiking up West Rattlesnake Trail in Holderness, NH.
Winding their way up the trail!
The 2-mile hike brought the students up to the 1260'-high summit overlooking the beauty of Squam Lake in the foreground and New Hampshire in the background.  Here, they could sit and ponder life, reflect upon the success of their recent climb, and feel proud of their achievements during the past three weeks of AELP.
A moment of appreciation.
As Teacher Kate says in regards to her group of students, "I am continually astonished at my students' immeasurable dedication to learning and improving."  She cites an example of Ellie, from Russia: "If I give Ellie free choice on her blog post for homework, she will produce a piece of writing that is not only genuinely beautiful in its style, but also clearly expressive of an original, meaningful idea."  Filippo, from Italy, was asked to brainstorm a topic out loud in Kate's class and she says, "Filippo went beyond my expectations.  He brought a richness to our class discussion by giving a plethora of information, details and examples."
AELP students forge up the trail of their latest challenge!
Kate's examples speak to the growth of confidence in the students that has been witnessed by all of the AELP staff and the students themselves.  Climbing both literal and figurative mountains, taking social and academic risks, challenging themselves physically and emotionally, these are the moments in which our AELP students learn about who they are and of what their truly capable.
Climbing that hill!
As Kate says, "It is an absolute privilege for me to be able to work with such an incredible group of independently motivated learners [who] share their own knowledge as readily as they seek information from others."  The entire AELP staff agrees:  we're honored and proud to be a part of our students' learning experiences!
A world of possibilities!
